The Jewish Community in Nikolaev has been around about 200 years. The
Community built several synagogues, houses of prayer, and educational
establishments during these years; some of these buildings remain
today.
During the last 10 years, only three buildings have been returned
to the city’s religious community. However, Jewish life in
Nikolaev is not solely defined by religious observation. It is important
to have premises dedicated for educational, sports and cultural
programs, as well.
We cannot wait for legislative changes to return buildings
built by our grandfathers and great grandfathers. We are constructing
our own building to further develop numerous programs, within our
own walls. Programs to be housed in our new building include our
Sunday School, Youth Club, research programs and publishing. Housing
these activities requires classrooms, lecture halls and dedicated
spaces.
Any building has its roof, walls and foundation.
Our home – is not only the roof above our head. These are
the walls allocated to our programs. This is the foundation of our
– future community. It is difficult to understand the project’s
importance to our community, without knowing many nuances of our
existence, without knowing our dependence from many conditions.
Our home makes Jews of the former soviet diaspora, free people.
This is the beginning of a new countdown building Jewish life.
